The Safety and efficacy of low and no calorie sweeteners (LNCS) have been researched for decades. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates low-calorie sweeteners either through the Food Additive Approval Process or the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) process1. Both processes follow established rigorous protocols and meet the FDA standard of safety1. Whether LNCS is evaluated as a Food Additive or GRAS ingredient, it is allowed for use by the entire population, including children, pregnant and lactating women, and people with diabetes.
